   V Paríži zavraždia mladú ženu, potom ďalšiu. Svedkovia tvrdia, že u obidvoch videli mladého muža, ktorý im priniesol papradie v črepníku. Podľa ich opisu vytvoria portrét, čo sa veľmi zhoduje s podobou mladého, mierne retardovaného Clémenta, ktorého schová policajt Ludvig u troch našich známych mladých „evanjelistov“ Marca, Matthiasa a Luciena. Hoci všetky indície nasvedčujú, že vrahom mladých žien je Clément, štvorica pátračov je presvedčená o jeho nevine a pustí sa do práce.
